Today I learned that Life is more than what it is. It is more than what I thought it was. It’s more than the greediness that I see in human’s evolution history. Life is about one’s passion. We create and design for the sake of passion. Be passionate, because that might be what’s missing from you to get you going.

Sometimes it feels like I’m giving up. And I really do think I’m giving up this time. I’ve never given up on my own designs before, I’ve always known what to do, I’ve always had a plan. But this time I think I lost control. I lost motivation in Design in the last couple of weeks, I kept on thinking about the true meaning of design behind all the fancy sketches, renderings, digital drawings, futuristic concepts that only exist in people’s minds without thinking about the reality that we’re losing resources at a fast pace. I realized that when someone comes up with a really futuristic, awesome, amazing idea, they just keep developing it and making it the most technology-advanced product. And wow, did anyone think about those countries who will never afford these designs yet are still waiting for designs to help them to have a better life? I don’t think so. Designers can be selfish sometimes, often or always. It sucks to think that I might be losing and giving up on my design works this time. Have I learned anything from this failure yet? No. Before reality kicks in I refuse to admit.

Life’s getting harder these days as Uni is approaching the end of First year. Life’s been pretty busy these days and I don’t know why I’m writing on Tumblr even tho I should be look at my notes. These last assignments kind of reflect what kind of person I am. I am not really organized, I am not really a neat person, I am not really a person with solid determination, I always get carried away when friends are around but I can’t wait to see them everyday because I feel true around them. I’ve always known what kind of person I am but I never treated it as a bad thing, I always recognized it as my own style. People do things in their own ways and if how I do things is different to others perceptions, then it ain’t really my problem is it. Sometimes the world has to look at things in a different angle, the buttons on a hair dryer don’t always have to be aligned, the handle of a hair dryer can be crooked, nothing we design have to follow what’s already out there. People open your eyes and stop judging, start appreciating the varieties that each human being designers can provide ya. LOOK INTO THAT WEBSITE AND LEARN ABOUT WHAT’S REALLY GOING ON. WE ARE EVILL DEVILZZ (click on the number “2” dumbass)

Never really liked blogs. Never really liked putting the effort and time into typing things that I can just simply say to myself in my head. Never really liked the idea of others reading my thoughts when they don’t even know me. But now that I have a something to share it probably makes better sense. I’m a First year Industrial design student at University. I was psyched about industrial design in high school, I was psyched about the course when I got into Uni. If only I knew that expectations never live up to reality. Over the past few months whilst studying the course, I’ve slowly lost interest in Design. It brings me to the question, What’s the point.?
Industrial designers used to respond to issues and difficulties, Industrial designers were born to solve problems. If people experienced problem in performing a task, Industrial designers would stand up and design a product to get rid of the problem. However, after studying about ID, I realized how fast we are losing our material. And how severe the issue of sustainability has become. I started to ask myself, if the world is losing its resources so fast, why are people still designing luxury designs that…. wouldn’t really make a difference if they never existed? I know that designers design products according to client’s brief. If a client wants a new fridge design, you gotta do it. But let’s look at the market, how many fridges are there in an electronic appliance store, how do these fridges really differ from each other? 99% of them look all the same. And yet they serve the same purpose and function. So what’s the point of keep on designing and producing products that not only look similar, but also serve the same purpose? Why would you put your time and effort into manufacturing a product that you know, is already out there in the market. And your product is probably not going to be any different than the ones already out there. Designers are constantly designing chairs, we always seem to be designing chairs. Again, it comes to the question, What is the point? When you see and chair and sit on it, do you really really care about how it looks? Designers wouldn’t be stupid to design a chair that is hard with straight and sharp corners, therefore most chairs are designed for comfort, with soft materials. Again, why do we keep on designing chairs? If you’ve never put your chair design into manufacturing, would it honestly make an impact in people’s lives? And if you did put it into manufacture, it’d just be another chair to the user. Why do we keep on putting time and effort into designing products like this that are all over the market? It is really a waste of material. But later on I found out that it is part of a Designer’s greediness to do so. When we think of a design, we see it as our own, we get so excited about our design that we put the time and effort into it to put it into production. Because we know when it’s produced, its our own design, we unconsciously want to be proud of our own designs by putting it into production. Think about the kids in Africa, Kids in Countries where there isn’t sufficient electricity, where life isn’t as good as what they deserve to get. In our modern world, There are so many luxury designs aimed for the rich, the glorious and the power. The world has seemed to forget about those who are suffering. I’d really give up designing super futuristic designs and actually concentrate on basic designs, designs that would help those who need help, not those who have the money and power to get everything they want. Last week during a class presentation, a girl had a luggage design that allows the user to sit on it and cruise around in the airport, saving trouble for the user to carry his/her own luggage. She was inspired by kids who sat in shopping center karts and got pushed around by their parents. I immediately had an image of everyone just sitting and cruising around on their luggage to go to their allocated gates. I asked myself, Is it really necessary to ‘lazy-fy” everyone? We were born with legs, arms and muscles. We have the capability of carrying our own luggage at airports, why should we give up on using what we have already and going for a design that just simply does ‘everything’ for us? I hope that design won’t make everyone so lazy and take away the basic human capabilities of us. Some people like to be really futuristic, and design things that ” Does everything for you with a push on the button”. I really hope that designers can stop at one stage, give up on designing super futuristic designs that would let robots dominate us. Us humans have the capability of moving around, performing different tasks. We don’t need designs that does everything for us. Even if the designs are aimed to make life easier for us, we should still learn how to organize ourselves without the help of machines that would do everything for us, because if this happens, we will just be a bunch of retarded bitches at the end of the day. And the end of the day is approaching. |
